Family Promise

Through Family Promise, BHBE works with other congregations in our area to support homeless families. Faith communities provide shelter, meals and companionship to homeless families. BHBE is a support congregation, and its volunteers assist at other congregations providing shelter.

Family Promise is active throughout the country, and operates in our area as Family Promise Chicago North Shore. It helps homeless families return quickly to permanent housing. Many families it works with include young children. Family Promise is committed to keeping families together; ensuring that children continue to attend school regularly; and fostering each family’s dignity, well-being, and growth.

Family Promise Chicago North Shore:

·Keeps families together, unlike traditional shelters that often separate older children and men from mothers and small children.

·Provides emergency transitional shelter using existing facilities of local congregations and organizations.

·Offers families a daytime location and address, at its Day Center, in Evanston, providing help for finding a job and permanent housing, and school arrangements.

·Tailors its services for each family to address the root causes of their homelessness.

Families must exhibit initiative and have a track record of self-sufficiency to be accepted.

Family Promise Chicago North Shore helped 15 families in its shelter program and other families in the community last year. It has guided countless families through their crisis toward resources to help them get back on their feet and find stable housing. Its website is, www.fpcnorthshore.org.
