Wednesday, January 8, 2020: L'Chaim Lifers. Join us at 2pm for light refreshments, social time and learning. This session Lindy Rubin is going to talk to us about Looking at Jewish Museums. What is the look of Jewish Museums today? We'll look at some of the great museums- art, beauty, history, etc.
Thursday, January 9, 2020: Learn to chant with Cantor Roytman. Come to the Youth Lounge at 8pm for a fun and interactive way to learn the cantillation of the Torah. Ability to read Hebrew is required. All ages are welcome!
Saturday, January 11, 2020: Families with Littles Havdalah. Our next Families with Littles Havdalah Program is coming up right after the new year! Join us from 5:30-6:30pm for a fun dinner, Havdalah ceremony, and "Chicago's Favorite Juggler" Andy Head! There is no charge for this program, but RSVP here!
Saturday, January 18, 2020: BHBE Film Festival. Let's meet in the Men's Club at 7:30pm to watch "Into the Arms of Strangers” (2000). Filmmaker Mark Jonathan Harris's Oscar-winning documentary tells the story of an underground railroad—the Kindertransport—that saved the lives of more than 10,000 Jewish children at the dawn of World War II. We'll have a stimulating discussion led by the engaging Jonathan Lehrer and unlimited popcorn, candy, soda, and hot drinks! $10 suggested donation to the Tikva Frymer-Kensky Adult Education Fund.
Saturday, January 25, 2020: Camp Shabbat. The Shabbat morning service in the sanctuary will have a Jewish camp theme. Did you or your children attend a Jewish camp? Wear your camp shirts! Group camper Torah aliyot! Camp-style shira (singing)! Students speaking about their camp experiences, reading Torah, leading prayers! Camp-style kiddush! Tot Shabbat will meet, but everyone else will participate in the sanctuary. Camp honors and fun starts at the Torah service, so be there by a few minutes before 10!
Saturday, January 25, 2020: Noshed! Foodies, come join us for Noshed, a battle of the chefs based on the popular TV show “Chopped.” Three of Chicago’s top kosher chefs will compete live to cook a creative dish out of a mystery basket of eclectic ingredients and be judged our panel of experts. Come out and sample delicious heavy hors d'oeuvres (both meat and vegetarian) from these popular kosher establishments, as well as enjoy desserts, drinks, an online silent auction, kosher wine pull, and more. Sunday, January 26, 2020: Camp Fair. From 9:00 - 12:15, tables in the Men's Club will be manned by many of the Jewish camps in our area, including Ramah, CHI, CYJ, OSRUI, JCC Day Camp, and more! The fair will be open all morning for parents and non-Academy students.
Saturday, February 8, 2020: Listen Up! BHBE Sisterhood presents Celebrating Israel Through 70 Years of Jewish Song. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show begins at 8:00pm. Tickets are $36 in advance or $42 at the door. RSVP here.
