Zoom Gala Gala
By now you know that our Virtual Gala will be held Sunday, June 28, 2020. But did you know that Corky Siegel and Howard Levy, world-renowned harmonica players, will be stopping by? Alex Kaufman, violinist from Maxwell Street Klezmer band, will join us as well. Did you know you’ll be able to purchase and pick up your choice of a delicious (chicken, fish or veg) kosher catered meal for dinner, thanks to the hard work of Sisterhood? Did you know that thanks to Men’s Club you can participate in the first BHBE GalaRama with a first prize of $2,000? Did you know that you will be able to participate in our digital Tribute Book, which will serve as your registration? Thank you to the many families who have stepped up in support of Zoom Gala Gala. Contact Rob Feder (rsfeder@gmail.com) if you wish to contribute in support of the event. We will send out the registration link soon. Did you know that Covid cannot defeat BHBE? Now you know!
Streaming Shabbat and Yom Tov Services
Join Rabbi Crane next Thursday, May 21st, at 7:30 pm for a class on streaming Shabbat and Yom Tov services.
Would you like to learn more about the Jewish legal guidance that goes into deciding how and if we stream Shabbat and Yom Tov services? To answer questions such as:
Why is Shabbat and Yom Tov streaming unidirectional (Rabbi and Cantor can only see one another)?
Why should we leave our computers on and logged in for the duration of Shabbat and Yom Tov?
What are the Jewish legal source texts that guide streaming on Shabbat and Yom Tov?
How did we make this decision?
What are other congregations doing?
Note, this will be instead of our typical L'Chaim Time on Thursday evening, May 21st.

Connecting at BHBE!
We want to share your pictures and videos!
In an effort to enhance our sense of communinty during this period of COVID-19, we are putting together a montage of photos and videos. We are looking for photos of your family sheltering in place and/or videos of your family talking about BHBE (what you miss about BHBE and what you look forward to in the future). If you are interested in joining this project, forward your photo or video clip to: connecting@bhbe.org. Our plan is to share this in late June, around the time of our Gala.

Israeli Pride: developments that help fight Corona
Locate, identify and win the Corona: The war on the Corona virus has resulted in the mobilization of hospitals in the country not only through the treatment of patients but also in a series of innovative developments that may help to combat the virus. These are some of the Israeli developments you should know about.
An examination to detect patients with exhalation Shaare Zedek Medical Center, in collaboration with the Institute of Biological Research Samples of methods developed at the Institute for Biological Research collected the molecules that could be a marker of the viruso define the markers of corona disease, exhalation samples are collected from patients for spectral analysis that allows identification of the chemicals present in the exhalation. According to Dr. Ronnie Eichel, an intensive care specialist and director of the neurological department at Gates of Justice and Dr. Eli Ben Sheetrit, an expert in infectious diseases who lead the study at Gates of Justice, this is a method that can lead to breakthroughs and exposure to the virus.
Testing for the virus in the body cells - that will give an immediate answer Ichilov Hospital in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and Anyvision are developing a rapid corona test, based on computer vision and artificial intelligence, to detect the virus in human cells.
The test will be based on computer vision capabilities, so that an advanced algorithm will decide within the second particle whether the sequence of human cells is infected or not infected. The test is expected to shorten the time it takes for results to be received almost immediately. In addition, the test will prevent the need for the use of expensive biological materials that are required to carry out the conventional tests today and no less important, it is expected to cost about a tenth of the cost of the conventional tests.
Leading the research in the test development are Prof. Dov Hershkowitz, Dr. Amos Adler, and Dr. Ahuva Weiss Meilik (Ichilov) and Prof. Neil Robertson (Anyvision). Prof. Hershkowitz, director of the Ichilov Institute of Pathology, explains that a large number of people can be diagnosed quickly. The idea in testing is not to detect the virus but to test its effect on the cell. We see that the cell stops doing its normal job and starts to become a virus-making plant. We built a computerized algorithm that can detect cells and teach the computer what patients' samples look like, and thus classify people.
