Monday, March 2, 2020: Midrash on a Midrash: Midrashim on the Haggadah. Join Rabbi Barry Friedman at 10:30am. You will learn about the core story of the Haggadah. What tales do the rabbis weave about the Ten Plagues? What folklore surrounds “My Father, A Wandering Aramean?” What traditional stories surround our most cherished Biblical narrative? And—why is this course called “Midrash on a Midrash?” This class will meet March 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Wednesday, March 4, 2020: Rabbi Crane’s morning Adult Ed Class, Introduction to Talmud. Join us at 10:00am to explore the Babylonian Talmud as a literary work, a historical phenomenon and the foundation of rabbinic Judaism. More dates to follow. Feel free to join us at any point in the semester.

Thursday, March 5, 2020: Rabbi Crane’s evening class, Contemporary Jewish Legal Issues. Join us at 8pm to learn through Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Movement responsa. We will delve deeply into modern day halakhic (Jewish legal) issues, such as: What time does Shabbat begin and end if you are on the International Space Station? Is lab-grown meat kosher? Feel free to join us at any point in the semester.

Sunday, March 8, 2020: BHBE Carnival: Star Wars of David: The Rise of Mordechai. We start at 10:30 with a Family Purim Pep Rally, including songs, sketches, Megillah surprises and a costume parade! Then at 11:00 - this year's Star Wars-themed BHBE Carnival. (Star Wars of David: The Rise of Mordechai!) Inflatables, games, prizes, food, fun. Sunday March 8, 2020: Purim Spiel: A Purim Carol. Rabbi Crane is dreaming about what his second year might be like and is visited by the ghosts of three Purim characters. This year's Spiel (unlike others) is filled with songs, skits, plenty of laughs and great dessert. Join us after dinner on Sunday, March 8, doors open at 6:15pm and spiel begins 6:30pm. Monday, March 9, 2020: The Star Wars theme continues with the congregational reading of the Megillah! 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Come for Ma'ariv at 7pm and then let's enjoy Purim! Lego Spaceships! Trivia contests! Pizza dinner! Full Megillah! Photo Booth! Star Wars characters and costumes!
Wednesday, March 11, 2020: Stay Safe and Balanced. At 1:30pm join the L'Chaim Lifers and Illinois Bone and Joint Institute for this great program. We will learn about balance, fall prevention and Tai Chi and do an activity. Wear clothes you can move in and gym shoes! There will be light refreshments.
Sunday, March 15, 2020: Annual JUF Brunch. Join us at 9:45am to honor Jessica and Alan Littmann for all their extraordinary work for the synagogue, Israel and our Jewish Community. Featuring guest speaker Ishmael Khaldi, author of A Sheperd's Journey, the Story of Israel's First Bedouin Diplomat. It is $18 per person. RSVP here.
Sunday, March 15, 2020: Man and Youth of the Year Dinner. Come to BHBE as we will be honoring Steven Bucksbaum and Rebecca Aisenberg! At 4:30pm there will be a silent auction, followed by dinner at 5:30pm. $36 per person if registered by March 4, $45 thereafter. Deadline for reservations is March 11. No synagogue charges.
